Lint Happens!

My buyer client’s conditional offer was accepted at about 9:30pm on a Thursday night. One of the conditions was a home inspection and it had to be done NOW. I assured my buyers that this would be “NO problem” (don’t let them see you sweat…!!). At 10:21pm, I sent an email to Lee Reich, Certified Home Inspector and Director of NorthernHomeInspection.ca letting him know in no uncertain terms that we needed an inspection done…. Now!! I wasn’t surprised that Lee responded by 10:52pm and with a bit of re-shuffling he was able to accommodate my request and we had an appointment booked for 5:00pm the next day. (Thanks Lee!)

I met Lee promptly at 5:00pm and he set about his business of inspecting the property. Lee shares a quality that you’ll find in anyone that is successful – passion. And I learned that Lee is passionate about LINT.

Lee explained to me that lint is highly flammable. In fact, literally thousands of house fires are started each year simply because homeowners were unaware that they should inspect and clean out their clothes dryer exhaust vent. A study conducted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) showed that lint in your home is annually responsible for around 15,000 fires, 20 deaths, over 300 injuries and more than $80 million in property damage!

These fires were not due to anything inherently dangerous about the dryer as an appliance, but more so the lack of regular maintenance of the dryer’s exhaust vent. Chances are there’s probably a considerable amount of flammable lint lining the walls of your clothes dryer’s exhaust vent right now and should be cleaned immediately. If your laundry is taking longer and longer to dry, this could be a sign that lint is building up.

“There’s a fabulous new product on the market that I highly recommend you educate your clients about – LintAlert”, enthused Lee. “Visit www.lintalert.com. This award-winning product is truly a must have for every home with a clothes dryer, especially for seniors or anyone that may lack the ability to perform basic home maintenance on a regular basis.”
